The Homestead has welcomed travelers to Virginia’s Allegheny Mountains for more than two centuries. Why? Those legendary healing springs. Today, its historic halls still resound with the lore of visits by American presidents and foreign princes, tales of affluence and attrition and, ultimately, resounding success as one of America’s most beloved and storied resorts.

The Homestead was the first southern resort to introduce downhill skiing. The year was 1959. They were catering to returning American GIs who had become fans of the sport while serving in Europe.

The Homestead boasts 10 ski trails and snow tubing. Snowshoeing and snowmobiling also are offered as weather permits.
