First off I am from New England, so I have put this in perspective of reality and by comparison to other NC ski areas. This is a nice, fun place on top of the world that has some fun hills to enjoy. The snow-making is outstanding and the staff friendly and competent. Given the lack of natural snow, (but their 100% snow-making), this is the most challenging of the resorts, but really if you ski north and west, there are no real blacks and only mildly challenging blues anywhere in the region. They have a nice long ski day and night--night skiing is a blast, and the accommodations in Maggie Valley are GREAT, inexpensive, clean, good food --super family values. If you park it there for a week or several nights, hey Asheville is 1/2hr-40 mins away--PLENTY of night life there. You might get a little more natural snow up around Boone but its just not worth the longer drive. CAT is the Ski Area of NC--PERIOD ( Note I am a transplanted Vermonter, so take it from there)
