2016/2017 Völkl 100Eight W ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its women’s Powder Category and awarded it an Editors’ Choice honor.
The Völkl 100Eight W is the class valedictorian of the Powder Category. Aside from winning an Editors’ Choice honor, the 100Eight W received the highest average score of any ski in the entire test, not to mention being scored the most versatile. It also tied for highest floatation marks in the women’s Powder Category. Accordingly, testers couldn’t find any negative feedback for the 108-mm-waisted ski, and many agreed with Fried’s assessment that “it can float and carve with the best of them.” The unique construction includes 3D.Ridge Technology—a raised central “ridge” created from the notably thin multi-layer wood core reinforced with carbon stringers—all designed to cut weight without sacrificing stability. The 100Eight W has a full rocker profile, tapered tip and a flat tail design. “Fun, fun, fun,” exclaims Johnson. “I loved the entire experience of skiing on this playful, stable, grippy ski.”
