2016/2017 Völkl 90Eight W ski review. OnTheSnow tested this ski as part of its women’s All-Mountain Back Category.

A new model from Völkl, the 90Eight W sports a 98-mm waist and 3D.Ridge Technology, which creates a thin profile around the edges and a raised central “ridge,” designed to cut weight without reducing stability and performance. “A great one-ski quiver for a strong skier,” says Brown. “It has good stability and edge hold and a nice tip profile that smears and floats.” Testers gave the ski high marks for flotation and rated it less favorably for carving and playfulness. Similar to the wider 100Eight W, both skis have a multi-layer wood core, combining denser wood under the binding with lighter wood around the rest of the ski, and carbon stringers. The rocker profile includes tip and tail early rise with a wide tip shape and flat tail. “It’s like a Porsche Cayenne,” says Riley. “Smooth on the highway, stable off road.”
