My family and I have been coming to Neiderau now for 8 years. We have just come back on Saturday 9th Jan 2010 and have just had a great week skiing both at Neiderau and near by Affach. This is a very freindly resort and the ski instructers are very good for all abilities and ages. My children are now 16,14 and 11 and all in different ski groups and have had a fantasic week meeting new friends.Where ever you ski in the resort it all comes back to one meeting point so the children can not get lost. We original stayed in the Hotel Vicky but sadly this shut 2 years ago, so for the second time we have stayed at the Hotel Harfenwirt. The hotel is not bad the swimming pool, sauna, whirl pool are great as they are only 2 years old.The food is ediable but lacks variety, Pork is on the menu several times during the week. But the staff are very very miserable especially the owner Herbert or Happy Herbert as my children nick named him.It seems every thing comes at a price even a cup of hot water to take some medicine! So we will be finding different accomadation next year.
Good for Familys
Holiday goes to quick
I stayed in Niederau last year in the Schneeburger hotel. We loved it so much that i am going back in Feb/Mar 07. The hotels food was amazing and plentiful. The snowboarding was good considering the slight lack of snow last year but having looked at the snow currently i am getting very excited. I would recommend this resort for beginners and intermediates.
me and my family have been going to niederau for three years now and we all agree that it is the best holiday we have ever had. we stay at the pension diane and are again doing so this feb. we were first time skiers three years ago and attended the ski school where we were taught well, we now ski from the top. the apres ski is a good laugh. evern the night life is good with some bars and clubs around the area. all in all good place and good people, anyone should give it a go.
My family have learnt to ski in Niederau going for the past 3 years. We have always stayed in the Hotel Schneeberger which is comfortable, welcoming and traditional. The red ski school have served us well offering great teaching and a fun time for all. The Thomson Kids Club Reps also do a brillant job ensuring little ones get safely too and from ski school. They seem as proud of the kids achievements as their parents are! Next Feb we are trying another resort but will miss everyone in Niederau as it is like visiting old friends both in the hotels, ski school and bumping into old class mates in the resort. I hope they get decent snow this season! If you are a family of novice skiers this resort is for you.
I stayed at Thomson's Club Hotel Vicky in Niederau from 3rd till 10th March 2007. This was my second visit to the Wildschonau Valley as I had learnt to ski in Oberau several years earlier. The staff at the Vicky were welcoming & helpful. The rooms were clean & fairly comfortable but basic. Evening meals were superb with a healthy & appetising vegetarian option daily. Breakfast was not nearly as good. Waiting times for a cooked breakfast were long, even when ordered as soon as the kitchen opened. Coffee was weak & got worse as the week passed by, but you can get a good cup of coffee at The Hotel Austria. The Vicky offers good value for money & is an excellent base for people holidaying with children. The hotel is fairly centrally located in the compact village of Niederau. It takes about 5 minutes to walk accross the field to the gondola & just under 10 minutes to walk round by the road in normal shoes. The Margarite Hire Shop, at the bottom of the gondola, offers ski & boot storage for 10 Euros per person per week, but their boot racks are not heated. Red ski school offers a very good standard of teaching & a fun, end of week slalom race. Ladies, be warned; Toni (an instructor) is very, very friendly! Snow conditions up the mountain in Niederau & Auffach were satisfactory but snow was absent in the villages. Red 19 was open for most of the week, making it possible to ski back to the bottom gondola station in Niederau. Buses to Oberau & Auffach are frequent but can be packed in the mornings & after ski school ends in the afternoons. There were long queues at the bottom gondola station in Auffach most mornings. I have had two great holidays in the reasonably priced Wildschhonau Valley & would recommend it to those learning to ski & to early intermediates. I would have been a bit bored, this year, if red 19 had not been open. Next year, I am going to Soll because as a 6th year skiier, I would like a wider variety of red runs.
