I have been there twice. It is a great mountain. If you are a decent skier, and love a huge mountain with so many runs to chose from that this is it. One of my top four resorts. It is up there with Zermatt, Arc 2000, Avoriz, etc.. I go to Europe for a month every year and ski several places. I have been doing this for 20 years so I am well seasoned on good resorts. This is one of them.. My personal experiences. great and friendly hotels and staff. great eating and dining. Fun village and shopping. And yes not everyone speaks English, so use your translator on your phone..I have never gone clubbing in any ski resort, because I go to ski resorts to ski, not get laid.. So I do not have an opinion on the night life of bars and woman. I bring my own. the few times I have gone out at night was more than fun. I am not sure what all the bad reviews are about. It is a great mountain with plenty to do. I will be going back in 2021. Again I go with my wife who does not ski and she finds plenty of things to do. I have never had any issues with this place. But to each their own. Most people who leave bad reviews are either single (and did not get laid) or people who are not grateful that they can afford to go to such a wonderful place to ski.. If you want to shop go to Geneva or Paris.

Megave has beautiful mountains surrounding it and good for skiing. However, I found myself in the most idiotic, pretentious place in Haute Savoie or even all of France. Staff in shops were unhelpful - because I was not French? For god's sake - English is a universal language. People cannot help but speak English. Not everyone knows French. I have travelled to many places all over the world and people from there all speak English. French people have to accept this and just get over it and be friendly for once. OK, tourist may have a reputation and not know the etiquette of French dining, etc. but please, it should not be an excuse to be rude, unkind and impolite. My friend did attempted to speak French but failed miserably. This was in a shop selling antiquites, materials and stuff made in India but claiming to be Austrian/French style. The staff did not help at all and pretended not to understand anything at all. How rude and unhelpful! I stood there and watched this and could not believe it. The staff laughed and sneered. I think they were jealous of us but they lost business from us. We would have bought things but did not even attempt to buy anything after the snobbiness. Full of people desperately trying to look wealthy whatever their age!! débarras au revoir et bon! There are better places to ski and enjoy life than with a lot of unfriendly people trying desperately to live like Austrians! :-)

Impolite, rude, vain staff
Great place to ski & people watch. Fun & relaxed night life. Not that expensive if you have money (should have taken your parents credit card Tom). All in all the real deal if you are looking for a quiet ski break away from the endless package ski trips and the likes of Tom. x
Great if you like stuck-up French people, snotty bar owners and ridiculously strict night club entry policies. However………. Although the resort is at a low altitude compared to many others in the French Alps, there were plenty of runs to chose from and the snow was pretty good – we went at the end of the season and the snow got a little slushy later in the day, especially lower down. The runs are incredibly pretty, with lots meandering through trees and our first days skiing, was pure millionaires skiing, with hardly a sole on the slopes. The only person you had to look out for was one of my mates, who would suddenly decide, without warning, to do a couple of 360 spins down steep red runs! Food on and off mountain was brilliant; on the slopes the two table service restaurants we ate at were great (the one self service meal we had was well below par!) and in the resort all the meals we enjoyed hit the spot. Be it slightly more expensive than other resorts, the general quality was excellent – on the first night I enjoyed the best Cepe Risotto I’ve ever eaten and I am remarkably fussy about food! However, getting back to my review of the bad points of Megeve; I have never been to such a stuck up resort and the French really did their best to live up to their reputation of disliking the brits and for all the good things I have spoken about, I will not be going back here for a very long time. On each night we went out, we were 3 guys, well dressed, not drunk and behaving very well, they just wouldn’t let us in bars or clubs, claiming they were full or it’s a private party etc, etc, whilst at the same time we turned away only to see then let in group after group of French people, unbelievable! The worst offenders were: The Jazz Club Megeve (Arrogant tall bloke on the door – idiot) and The White Pearl Megeve (chubby dark guy who also swiped an extra €5 out of my hand – idiot). We also visited Palo Alto Megeve and they would have let us in on the Friday night, but the place looked dead – here the doormen were great and did us the courtesy of informing us that it was indeed very quiet and subsequently didn’t take €20 off each of us, which they could easily have done. They let us in on Saturday, when indeed, the place was busier, but being a bit out of season it was still quiet by our standards and like most of Megeve, it was stuffed to the rafters of portentous idiots, all posturing, trying to look their best. If you want to sit down at any of these bars, forget it, you can’t sit down at any of these bars as they all have areas reserved for the rich or wanabee rich, who sit there swigging champagne, right in the middle of all the action – if you want my opinion (which you’re going to get anyway) they want to be looked at and probably all hate the taste of champagne! In the ultra portentous White Pearl Megeve, one champagne swigging idiot, who’s birthday it was, decided that it would be really funny to spray champagne over everybody on the dance floor, everyone outside of his posing VIP circle (he probably thought we were commoners as we weren’t drinking champagne) and perhaps he thought this was funny – the worst thing was that the bouncers and club management let him get away with it, they turned a completely blind eye, more than likely as he had a bit of cash. ANY nightclub in London would not have put up with that, whoever he was and in London he would have been ejected, good work White Pearl Megeve! Summing up, as you can see, most of this Megeve Review is directed towards going out at night as this was by far the worst aspect of the resort and it has really put me off it. If you are looking for a ski resort to go out in the evening I would never recommend Megeve beyond its great restaurants. Well done to the Jazz Club Megeve (especially the arrogant tall doorman – idiot!), The White Pearl Megeve – you have the worst door staff I have every come across and you did your best to ruin our evenings. To think, when we did get into your stuck up, rubbish establishments (Jazz Club does have a good atmosphere) we still had to pay a minimum of €15 euros a drink (€13 in the Jazz Club) for short measures and low grade spirits, unbelievable. By the way, I like using the word idiot a lot! Oh, let’s not forget that the skiing and food was very good.
Fantatic resort for skiers of all abilities. More sophisticated than your average resort so you should expect a corresponding increase in prices in bars and restaurants. Has a huge number of high quality restaurants on and off the slopes and plenty of Michelin stars for you to try out. Slopes are well maintained and vaied though the lift system is a little outdated in areas. For none skiers or those trying to get away from the ski facists for a day the shops are amazing though pricey.
Megève was one of the earliest ski resorts to be created - a French answer to St Moritz. It is still the place for the well heeled rather than the grunge crowd, with prices to match and visitors are more likely to be here to flaunt their wealth and petite dogs rather than their skills on ski or board . Based on a thirteenth century village its pedestrianised centre still has cobbled streets. Today it is a unique place in many ways - differing from almost all other French ski centres in its history, ambience and altitude. It is almost the antithesis of the high altitude concrete rectangle resort for which France is infamous but, none-the-less, it gives skiers access to one of the world's largest lift-linked ski areas, and a lift pass that includes neighbouring Chamonix. The lengendary super-rich Rothschild family were responsible for making Megeve famous in the 1920s and they still own property including mountain restaurants here today. Megève is a huge ski area with 300km (186 miles) of trails spread across three areas. The largest links the resort over Mont d'Arbois to St Gervais. On the other side, the Rochebrune ski area is exclusive to Megève, whilst the third area, Jaillet, is shared with the village of Combloux. The three areas are together known as the Evasion Mont Blanc and form only a part of Ski Pass Mont Blanc which gives access to a dozen resorts in the Mont Blanc area, including Chamonix. There are nearly 200 trails to enjoy locally, with highlights including the Olympique run at Rochebrune, a long fast red. If you’d like something steeper the black beneath the top chair to Mont Joly is extremely steep. The Caboche cable-car and the gentle modern chair-lift at "la Petit Fontaine" provide good access towards Cote 2000, the venue for World Cup races. At the start and end of the season Jaillet is a good, quiet choice and Mont d'Arbois the most snow sure. There are several steep blacks and off piste runs particularly on Mont Joly and Mont Joux. Tree skiing around La Princesse is especially good when the snow is fresh. If you hike up Mont Joly for an hour or two you reach a point from which you can ski down to les Contamines, also on the regional pass and ultimately due to be lift linked to Megeve. In addition, both ski schools and the Mountain Guides Office offer daily tours of Chamonix's famous Vallée Blanche as well as heli-guiding, off piste and ski touring. The mountain guides also organise long distance ski treks on all traditional routes such as Chamonix to Zermatt.
