Crested Butte is adding a base area built for fun. The new Adventure Park has year-round ice skating, bungee trampolines, and a climbing wall. The skating rink is a high-tech skating surface known as Super-Glide synthetic ice. The rink was originally at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, where it was part of a display on climate change. A tubing hill will be added to the base area this winter. There will be a new tow lift for tubers and several tubing lanes.
Other improvements at Crested Butte are at the Ice Bar restaurant. The remodel has doubled the size of the Ice Bar which is at the base of the Twister Lift. It is open for lunch and evening Last Tracks dinners. Sleighride dinners also are operated out of the Ice Bar in the winter.
Crested Butte has an early-season deal that offers guests free skiing and a lesson. The Stay & Ski Free package is offered through Crested Butte Vacations. Guests booking their lodging receive free skiing with their reservation. Also offered is an adult group half-day lesson for free. The package is available on opening day, Nov. 25, through Dec. 16. There are some requirements and the offer is subject to availability.
