Lots of resorts like to think they have this spring thing down pat, but Mammoth Mountain is probably the king of late-season skiing and snowboarding.
Where else can you find quality post-vernal equinox riding - both in terms of snow and availability of terrain - than at Mammoth, which regularly keeps its lifts spinning until the Memorial Day Weekend and often into June and beyond?
Mammoth is bringing back its annual Spring Fest, a month-long celebration of sun, snow and savings (try lift tickets for as low as $69 a day and lodging rates beginning at $99 per night).
Check out the West Coast Invitational, which is returning to Mammoth May 1-3 for the eighth consecutive year. This three-day event brings together the world's best pro riders along with talented youngsters to compete in the Vans Fiesta de la Pipa (a superpipe competition) and the Village Rail Jam, which takes place under the lights. The non-competitive highlight of the WCI just may well be the music shows, which will feature the likes of Dilated Peoples and My G.
Then, you might want to hang around for the Salomon Jib Academy, which takes place May 4-7 and will feature some of world's best under-16 park and pipe riders in the world throwing down their best tricks in Mammoth's Unbound Parks.
