Winter Park wants you if you love skiing, love helping people and love blowing up stuff. The ski ability try outs for the 2009-10 ski patrol team get under way March 21 or March 29 at Winter Park. The main objectives to being a member of the Winter Park Ski Patrol are to assist in caring for injured skiers and making the mountain more enjoyable.
You'll have a great time skiing - from trail check - to evening sweep. You'll perfect outdoor emergency skills, outdoor survival and avalanche skills, and make friends that will last a lifetime. Registration is at 8 a.m. at West Portal Station; testing will end around 1 p.m. This test will be given on a variety of black diamond mogul runs. This is a physically demanding assessment on steep, extreme terrain, on variable conditions as you will need to be able to get in and out of any kind of terrain for rescues. Advanced/Expert alpine or Telemark skiers only.
WP will select both paid and volunteer patrol from these days. All applicants must attend one of the sessions to be considered for the 2009-10 patrol positions.
Cost to try out is $20 or $15 with a Winter Park Season Pass or Rocky Mountain Superpass. Winter Park and Copper Mountain employees with a current employee pass or current NSP registration card, pay $5. Upon passing the ski ability test, candidates must have a personal interview in the fall of 2009.
Pre-registration can be done through the Winter Park Recruiting Office. E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call 970-726-1536 for the pre-registration and release forms.
