All aboard! Weekend passenger train service from Denver Union Station to Winter Park Resort is back in action. From Jan. 7 through March 26, 2017, skiers and riders will be able to choo-choo their way around I-70 ski traffic on a scenic two-hour ride to the slopes.
In partnership with Union Pacific, Amtrak will be offering adult tickets for as low as $39 each way. Winter Park Express departs Union Station at 7:00 a.m., Saturdays and Sundays (with an additional round-trip on Martin Luther King Day and Presidents Day) and returns to Denver at 6:40 p.m.
The 500 plus passenger train, which departs Winter Park at 4:30 p.m., offers customers a relaxing après experience on the return trip. Customers can reserve a variety of round-trip ticket options, from a day or weekend trip to a full week-long vacation. Reservations must be made by 11:59 p.m. Mountain Time the day prior to departure. Two children, between the ages of 2 and 12, can ride half-price with each ticketed adult.
Winter Park is in the process of installing a permanent, heated and fully ADA-compliant train platform at the resort. The project, which has a $3.5 million budget (including other infrastructure improvements in Fraser), is slated for completion in early December. “This is the culmination of a long but rewarding process and we couldn’t be more excited to have passenger rail service return to the doorstep of Winter Park Resort,” said Gary DeFrange, Winter Park Resort President.
Tickets go on sale at 8:00 a.m. Mountain Time on Aug. 30 at Amtrak.com.
