Smugglers' Notch Resort in northern Vermont is offering three unique culinary experiences this season that showcase locally produced chocolates, cheeses, and wines as well as hearty and delicious gourmet food.
Chocolate Tasting. The hour-long tasting starts with a brief history of chocolate from its beginnings as an ingredient in a beverage favored by the Aztecs to the many variations of the modern-day chocolate bar. The presentation is enhanced by "show and tell" items that are passed among the participants, including a cocoa pod and vials of cocoa butter and powder. During the presentation, guests enjoy their own platter of crackers and Vermont Cabot cheeses and a selection of fruits, accompanied by a glass of wine and mineral water. The tasting itself showcases a variety of mild and dark chocolates from Lake Champlain Chocolates in Burlington, Vermont. The cost for the Wednesday tasting is $18 for adults and $10 for children 13 and under.
The Top of the Notch Snowshoe Adventure Dinner. This dramatic dinner takes place in the warming cabin atop Sterling Mountain. The Sterling Lift transports guests to the summit, where they strap into their snowshoes and enjoy a pre-dinner tour on trails around the summit. Upon their return to the cabin, a gourmet meal prepared by the Resort's Hearth & Candle Restaurant awaits them, including an appetizer, main course, salad, and dessert. Guests are welcome to bring their own beverage. Dinner's calories are worked off by the 40-minute snowshoe back down to Smugglers' Madonna/Sterling Base Lodge. The cost for the Tuesday dinner, including snowshoe rentals, is $69 per person.
Taste of Vermont Wine Dinner. This outing, new this season, combines the culinary prowess of the Resort's Hearth and Candle Restaurant with the award-winning wines of Boyden Valley Winery in nearby Cambridge, Vermont. Guests are transported to the winery by resort shuttle, and enjoy a tour of the winery operation prior to dinner in Boyden Valley's 1800s carriage barn. The Hearth and Candle chefs present a five-course meal expertly paired with Boyden Valley wines. The wine dinner is offered weekly on Wednesdays during the winter season. The cost for the dinner is $90 per person.
