Seven Springs Mountain Resort is way ahead of itself this winter.
The Superpipe opened more than three weeks ahead of the last two seasons, testament to favorable winter weather, a skilled snowmaking and grooming staff, and the resort's commitment of resources to make the feature possible.
"Just wanted to pass on the great news," said Anna Weltz of Seven Springs in a recent e-mail.
The Superpipe is located in The Spot, the resort's signature park. The Spot also offers the biggest jumps at Seven Springs - 30 feet and 42 feet, as well as jibs, bonks, and other features.
The Spot is nestled in the Alpine Meadows region of the mountain and affords good access for spectators.
Elsewhere, The Alley is a brand new offering that twists through a half-mile of goodies, including table jumps, boxes, bonks, rails, step down jumps, and a mix of rollers at the bottom.
Meanwhile winter churns along merrily into the longer days of late February, with deep snow cover on all terrain and warmer daytime temperatures to make time on the slopes even more enjoyable.
Soon will come the madness of March, with festivals, races, promotions, and other enticements to keep skiers and snowboarders coming to the slopes.
