Washington D.C.'s annual rites of winter - the National Ski & Snowboard Expo - run Friday Nov. 7 through Sunday Nov. 9 at the Dulles Expo Center.
It's the big kickoff event of the winter season for the region's 2.5 million outdoor enthusiasts,.
This year, the snowsports expo combines forces with the Northern Virginia/DC Travel Show.
"It's the largest and most comprehensive ski and travel show in the Mid-Atlantic region, offering every kind of outdoor sports and travel product. Skiing, snowboarding, ski resorts, travel agents, cruise lines, airlines, winter and summer destination resorts. The public will have access to over 200 exhibitors in this combined event," Zedeck said.
Resorts, skis, snowboards, boots, bindings, goggles, poles, clothing, and thousands of other snowsports gear will be on display, as will travel agents, cruise lines, and tour operators.
The show offers interactive try-before-you-buy displays and demos, a Super Rail Jam, hundreds of free tickets given away every day, discounts on gear, special giveaways, seminars by experts, and showings of Warren Miller's newest movie.
"The biggest change this year is that the D.C. show has joined forces with the Northern Virginia/DC Travel Show and we are putting on both shows together. We're offering people two shows under one roof, for one ticket, 90,000 square feet of exhibits," Zedeck said.
"The travel show is cruises and vacations in a warm weather climate, that sort of thing. We've combined into one show because if something doesn't grow, it dies. We need to expand the base of people interested in visiting the show, to offer a combination of travel across the whole spectrum of opportunities," he said.
"It helps both shows because it brings a younger dynamic to the travel show, and a wider group of people to my show. Together it should be a very attractive event," Zedeck said.
Show hours: 4 to 8 p.m. Nov.; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Nov. 8; 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 9. Admission is $10.
The show is sponsored by Toyota.
