When Crystal Mountain opened the Mt. Rainier Gondola — the first gondola at a Washington ski area — in January 2011, it transformed skiing at the resort, zipping riders to the summit in less than 10 minutes. It also allowed for new dining experiences at the Summit House and permitted skiing to run until July 16.
Crystal's season passes, which went on sale last spring, included use of the gondola for skiing in spring and summer 2011. The pre-season sale, however, is still on. Those who haven't purchased yet can still buy season passes on sale through Sept. 30.
Some pass options include unlimited gondola access through the end of the 2011-12 season. Other passes have the gondola access available as an add-on.
The premium Gold Peak to Summit Pass, which is valid anytime at the two Boyne resorts in Washington — Crystal Mountain and The Summit at Snoqualmie — includes unlimited access to the gondola in winter. The adult pass costs $949 on sale.
The Gold Unlimited Pass, which also has the gondola use included, comes with 10 free days at The Summit at Snoqualmie and other Boyne resorts. The Gold Unlimited Pass costs $849 for adults through Sept. 30.
The Silver Midweek pass, which costs $599 during the sale, is available for weekday skiing and riding with no blackout days. A gondola upgrade can be added on for $89.
The Bronze Pass, which used to require four people to purchase together, can now be bought individually. It permits unlimited skiing and riding at Crystal only. The adult pass costs $699 through Sept. 30, and the gondola upgrade may be added on for $89.
Youth, child, and senior rates are also available for all passes, except the Silver Pass.
The Crystal Mountain pre-season pass sale runs through Sept. 30. Rates increase Oct. 1 by $50-100 for adult passes. Passes may be purchased online, in person, by fax, or by mail.
All season passes are valid through the end of the 2011-12 season, which is scheduled to close April 15. Spring skiing after then will be pending this winter's snowpack.
