Grindelwald will one again host the World Snow Festival from January 14 - 19, 2008. Over a period of six days, international artists design figures and sculptures out of meter-high blocks of snow. The World Snow Festival, which began with a huge Heidi carved in the snow by Japanese artists, has developed into one of the most fascinating and popular winter events in the glacier village Grindelwald. Staged on the natural ice-rink in the village centre, teams of artists from different countries delight both young and old, guests and locals, with their activity. The artists' work becomes an exclusive attraction turning the village square into a hive of activity, and always gaining much respect. The Festival comes to a close with a ceremony and a jury of experts judges the giant, but also transitory, masterpieces created according to the criteria: topicality, originality and skill.
