Trauma Parkers will absolutely jump for joy at the new and enlarged Pick ‘N Shovel Terrain Park at Park City Mountain Resort. Not only has it doubled in size but it's got a new name and new lights for night riding. The newly dubbed "Three Kings Terrain Park" joins the Three Kings Mountainzone. Upgraded light bulbs- the old 1500 watt quartz lights get the boot after 43 years - will burn brighter but save more energy. Night operations start Christmas Day. Pack the hot chocolate, Heat Factory handwarmers, and make turns from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., seven days a week.
Assessment, a favorite intermediate run, gets snowmaking. This is a good thing early season as it opens up more terrain off the Silverlode lift. Snowmaking also will be added to Three Kings and Quicksilver runs.
"The additional snowmaking will allow us to provide an enhanced early season product and the expanded night operations will drastically improve the night skiing and riding," said Jenni Smith, PCMR president and general manager.
PCMR will add three new "Adventure Alley" runs for intermediate adventures in the trees. Advanced bushwhackers will love the extra glading done off the Crescent Ridge.
Now here's something to get really jazzed about, finally: toilets at the bottom of Jupiter Chairlift. No more having to ski away from the goods just to answer the call of nature. Both Jupiter and King Con chairlifts will sport these "Eco Toilets." The on-mountain restrooms in both the Summit House and Snow Hut restaurants also get some love with the recent renovations.
Park City Mountain Resort is scheduled to open for the 2010-11 winter season Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010.
