Art, music, theater, and even the rodeo, all bring Aspen and Snowmass to life every summer. The historic mining town is full of activities, long after the slopes close. The Aspen Music Festival has entertained the town for over 60 years, as the world's most accomplished and promising musicians come to town. They're there to teach, learn, and perform with the Aspen Music Festival and School. The Music Tent is a permanent fixture and you can buy tickets for events and shows July 1-August 22. Or do what the locals do. Bring a bottle of wine and a picnic and sit outside the tent on a blanket, to enjoy the concerts in the tent, while surrounded by the gorgeous mountains, and the stars on a summer evening.
Snowmass Village offers music of a different kind, with the free summer concert series. Musical genres from reggae to classical jazz are represented. Bring a blanket and walk to the end of the Snowmass Village Mall, and take a seat on Snowmass Mountain. Enjoy an evening of music and entertainment. Food is allowed and beverages are available for purchase. Dogs and their owners have a special area on the hillside.
The big celebration is Fourth of July, as is what happens at ski areas across Colorado. About 20,000 locals and visitors come together to celebrate the nation's birthday in style with a parade, a bike rodeo for kids, U.S. Airforce jet flyby, and spectacular fireworks on Aspen Golf Course. Snowmass has live music on Fanny Hill, movies, and more on-mountain fun.
Everyone loves the rodeo. The Snowmass Rodeo entertains from June 16-August 18 with Saddle Bronc Riding, Team Roping, Bareback Riding, Barrel Racing, and Bull Riding. The kids love the Calf Scramble. The rodeo is every Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
