Burke Mountain, Kingdom Trails and the Wafer Family Foundation are hosting the fourth running of the dogs, the sled dogs that is.

Organizers say it's the largest sled dog racing event in the Lower 48.

Races take place the weekend of Feb. 26-28 in East Burke, Vt.

The Sled Dog Dash is a two-day family friendly fundraiser for four-, six-, and eight-dog teams, an open class, and skijoring, with a dinner and auction the evening before racing begins.

Events take place on a 10-mile course.

Winners split a $10,000 purse.

Races begin at 9 a.m. each day at the Kingdom Trails XC Ski Center on Dashney and Pinkham Roads in East Burke.

Hot food will be served at the race site, children's games and activities will be provided, scenic trail viewing areas with high-peak and Willoughby Gap backdrops will be accessible by snowshoes, and spectator's children will have the opportunity to participate in a one-dog event, for which a helmet is required.

All proceeds from the event, along with money raised at a benefit dinner and auction Friday, Feb. 26, go toward various charities for children in the Northeast Kingdom, with a portion earmarked for building a Community Center in the Burke area.

The Burke Mountain Sled Dog Dash has raised more than $40,000 since it began in 2007 for Northeast Kingdom children and family charities and the community center building.
