Snowshoe Resort is wrapping up West Virginia's Learn a Snow Sport Month in grand style with a free ski or ride offer valid for state residents only on Sunday, Jan. 31. Each qualifying guest needs to present proof of residency in West Virginia and a filled out voucher that can be downloaded from the Snowshoe Web site.

Participating guests simply need to present vouchers at the On Mountain Sales office. Each voucher is redeemable for one lift ticket. There is no cash or resale value involved.

"Most of our business is from out of state, so this is a way for us to cater to those who live in West Virginia," said Snowshoe Communications Manager Laura Parquette.

Residents 13 years of age or older also get a complimentary group beginner lesson if they purchase rental equipment. The group lesson is a $47 value. Lesson times are 9, 10:45 and 11 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. The children's ski school is not included in the offer.  A ski, boot, poles rental package or a snowboard and boot package costs $33 for adults if booked in advance and $39 for walk-ups.

The beginner group lesson lasts one hour and 45 minutes. It covers skills needed for beginners and low intermediates need to master green, or easiest, terrain.

West Virginia is one of 32 states celebrating Learn a Snow Sport Month as declared by Governor Joe Marchin earlier in January.
