Afton Alps, one of the largest ski areas near the Twin Cities, will be celebrating the longer daylight hours and warmer temps with its Spring Fling this Saturday, March 13.  It promises to be a lot of fun for the entire family.

Events include an obstacle course race, treasure hunt, water skipping (otherwise known as the slush pit), and a NASTAR swim suit race; bikinis optional.  Adults will find an ice bar on the deck, which hopefully will be a good place to watch the bikini race.  Live entertainment will be taking place from 1-5 p.m. with Jeff James performing in Paul's Pub.

There is Dough in the Snow especially for kids; actual money buried in the snow on the slopes.  "The little sand shovels you find on the beach would be perfect for digging up the money," says Afton spokesperson John Reents.

Rock & Ride, a snowboard and twin-tip freestyle event, takes place after the "water skipping."

Family Value Days, 2 p.m. to close, are March 20-21. Two family members ski or ride for $50 and additional family members are $20 each.  Rental equipment is half-price and one-hour group lessons for ages six and up are $4 per person.
