Lower Silesian Province (also known as Lower Silesian Voivodeship, or by its Polish name of województwo dolnośląskie) lies in south-western Poland. Since it is one of the fastest developing provinces, it attracts tourists every year. Lower Silesian Province includes 91 cities, from which 3 are with the rights of county (Polish- powiat). The biggest is Wrocław with 630 000 citizens which is also the place of residence for the local government. It has also the only in this region international airport. Other big cities are, among others: Wałbrzych, Jelenia Góra, Legnica.Skiers will find there a couple of interesting ski resorts. There are usually good conditions in Karkonosze, where they can find 30 km ski routes for downhill skiing and 100 km for cross-country skiing. The biggest resort in this region is Karpacz, which offers a lot of ski runs and lifts and well-developed touristic base.Szklarska Poręba lies at the foot of Szrenica (1363 m.a.s.l.) in Izera Mountains (Polish: Góry Izerskie), the western part of The Sudetes (Polish: Sudety). You can find there a lot of ski routes. What is more, in this region annual charity “Run of Piasts” (“Bieg Piastów”) takes place and it is the biggest event of this kind in Poland.In Sienna, not far from Stronie Śląskie you can find a resort named Czarna Góra. Despite it is rather small (8 km of ski runs), it is perfectly prepared. Modern lifts, gastronomic base, equipment rentals and free parking lots, attract enthusiasts of one- or two-day skiing excursions.Definitely the biggest amount of ski runs and lifts concentrated in one place you can find in Zieleniec, in Orlické Mountains (Polish: Góry Orlickie). The localization of this resort guarantees abundant snowfall and a long preservation of snow. There are a lot of ski schools and in nearby Duszniki Zdrój there are a lot of hotels and restaurants. Zieleniec is also definitely the best place for the enthusiasts of night skiing because of the big amount of illuminated ski routes.The other, smaller resorts which you can find in Lower Silesian Province are: Łysa Góra (Kaczawskie Mountains- Góry Kaczawskie ), Rzeczka (Owl Mountains - Góry Sowie), Czarnów and Świeradów Zdrój.The snow conditions are mostly the same in Lower Silesian Province. The best conditions are from December till February, the snowfalls are usually abundant which guarantees good conditions. Zieleniec is the exception whose localization and specific microclimate cause the snow stays for about 150 days in the year.
