Though All-Mountain Front skis can leave trenches in the snow and are happiest on the groomers, wider waists (between 86 mm and 99 mm) mean more support for forays off-piste or into the bowls with variable snow. These skis often have a race-ski style construction but with expanded waists and rocker added for maneuverability and flotation as well as rocker-dampening technology. Typically cores are wood, sometimes with titanium or a blend of hard and soft wood that makes the ski strong underfoot and softer in the tip and tail. Skis in this category are mostly directional and comfortable carving at top speed, while others have a more surfy, playful feel.
